The Washington Student Association will host its annual Olympia Lobby Day on Mon, Feb. 20, 2012. The rally will give students an opportunity to share their thoughts about potential tuition increases and cuts to financial aid with state legislators.
Shahin Mortazavi, director of business and government relations for Associated Students of UW Bothell, encourages as many students as possible to attend the rally.
“This is a great chance for us to voice our concerns about the higher cost of higher education and lack of financial support,” Mortazavi said.
According to the agenda provided by WSA, the event will begin at 10 a.m. at the WSA tent located in the Capitol building’s Sunken Gardens, across the street from the Temple of Justice. At that time, participants will have the opportunity to sign a petition, register for meetings with their local representatives and fill out postcards voicing concerns.
Chants are expected to begin at 1:30 p.m. and will include a march to the north steps of the legislative building, where the official rally, featuring both student and guest legislators will take place.
ASUWB will be meeting Monday at 8 a.m. on the promenade between UW-1 and UW-2. Any students in need of transporation can carpool in the university van provided by ASWUB. Students who are unable to attend can sign the WSA petition here.
