We hope that this interview series will enable you make a more informed decision when voting this week.  Here are the interviews and platform statements for the Presidential candidates.

Amira Davis’ Platform Statement

My name is Amira Davis and I am running for ASUWB President.  I am a Junior majoring in Biology.  I started here at UW Bothell three years ago as a freshman and could not be more passionate about this campus!  I have had the privilege of having 2 years of experience serving on ASUWB and would be so honored to serve as your ASUWB President.  This past year, while serving as the Vice President, I have worked with administration at UW Bothell, as well as UW Seattle in connecting student’s needs and wants to the people who can help achieve them.  I have also worked to build a strong working relationship with the city of Bothell and have worked to increase the student discounts at downtown Bothell restaurants.  I have advocated for student safety by working with the city for the installation of street lights on the main walkway from campus to downtown Bothell.

It has been incredible to witness the growth and change that happens on this campus and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.   If elected, I will work to:

• Advocate for the needs and wants of this amazing student body

• Continue the strong relationship between the students and the administration

• Strengthen diversity

• Continue to develop transparency

My experience as a student leader together with my passion for the University of Washington Bothell have prepared me to successfully serve as your ASUWB President

Vote Amira Davis!!!

Robert MacDonald’s Platform Statement

As President of ASUWB, my aim is to provide all students with the means to affect their institution. I am aware of the challenges facing students on campus, during my time serving on the Student Tech Fee Committee I worked diligently to ensure campus wireless internet will be renovated during the 2010-2011 academic year. I am passionate about the University of Washington Bothell and strongly support our connection to the City of Bothell. I will ensure the wisdom of predecessors be woven into the future of ASUWB.

For those of you who do not know me, here are a few of the qualities and experiences that I will bring to ASUWB Presidency:

•  Advocating community involvement, I participated and presented at the Earth Day 2010 Event at St. Edwards State Park allowing policy makers to hear about environmental conservation and valuing the natural world.

•  Participating in team sports over the last 17 years has taught me the value of collective team work and led to me to understand that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

•  I’m aware of campus initiatives and plan to follow the work of campus task forces to understand the research these groups do for our campus leading to well-informed decisions.

You may have seen me in Campus Library working as a Technology Consultant; I invite to you stop by the technology desk at the campus library and voice your concerns. I will work hard for all students, in all departments.

Hillary U’s platform statement

My name is Hillary U and I want to be your ASUWB President because I will work tirelessly to provide you with the services and choices you deserve. I won’t promise you solutions to things that I know are not realistic; instead, I want you to be able to see actual change.

For example, some of the things I will accomplish include:

•Scheduling: Establish more afternoon and evening class selections, as well as more online courses.

•Campus printing: Make changes to the current printing situations on campus, including more printers for available use.

•Food options: Create healthier choices, including vegetarian and vegan, as well as choices for students who attend evening classes.

These are just a few of the things I will achieve if I am elected as your ASUWB President.

I also have many of the necessary skills that are required to fill this presidential position. I am outgoing, have strong organizational skills, diplomatic communication abilities, and am passionate about UW Bothell.

So, now that you know a little about me, please approach me with your ideas. Talk to me about your hopes for the future of UW Bothell, and let’s make a connection.

So don’t forget to vote Hillary U for ASUWB President and Eliran Eretz-Kedosha for Vice President – We’ve got you covered.

I would vote for Robert MacDonald because he looks professional.

I used the same criteria while judging HS debate, until they asked me to stop being a judge.)

Although I have no vote in the ASUWB elections I am interested in the overall democratic process. Especially when it comes to how candidates present themselves to the media. The format the Husky Herald used, showcasing both a video and a written platform statement allows the voter to consider the candidate as a whole.

I found that the questions asked by the Husky Herald staff were thougtful and the answers given by the candidates were informative. Great feature for the paper! Keep up the good work.
