ASUWB Elections: Executive Representative Candidate Interviews

Welcome back to coverage of ASUWB elections.  Voting begins today and goes through Wednesday of this week.  Last week The Husky Herald conducted interviews with the majority of candidates running for office; the only interview omissions are those candidates who did not respond or declined to interview.

We hope that this interview series will enable you make a more informed decision when voting this week.  Here are the interviews and platform statements for the Executive Representative candidates.

Ali Bulzomi’s Platform Statement

I want to serve on ASUWB because I absolutely love being a part of student leadership, I want to stay involved in the positive changes at UWB, and I want to better advocate for UWB students (provide opportunities for their voices to be heard).

Qualities I bring to the position: Experience, passion, drive, fortitude, creativity, and spunk.

What I hope to accomplish next year on ASUWB is a more approachable and transparent relationship between UWB’s Administration and the student body, the formation of a Student Congress, and continued involvement in the research and development of a sports field at UWB.

Eric Chan’s Platform Statement

Coming in as a freshman back in 2008, I knew only two students entering UWB.  Over the past two years I have met a great number of student representatives of the school.  Finishing up my second year here, I feel that I want to be a part of that student representation and have the qualities to serve on ASUWB.   I want to serve ASUWB because I want to help the school any way I can and I believe Executive Representative is the best way to utilize my abilities.  As an officer in a few of the sports teams and clubs on campus, I believe I have the leadership qualities to be a great Executive Representative.   Also being part of the diverse clubs offered here at UWB, I believe that I have a good insight on what the students would like to see out of their student government.  As a member of the ASUWB executive council I would hope to accomplish the ideals of the students while doing my best to improve the school for everyone.

Andrew Hunt’s Platform Statement

In our quite frantic lives as many of us see them: balancing academics, work, friends, and family, it is hard to find a sense of community. It is a great importance for me to feel connected to a body of individuals, whom are organized, in the common pursuit of bridging the disconnect between learning and living, because they are so interconnected.

It is my desire to encourage and facilitate an open community, dedicated to supporting one another, being apart of each other’s academic success, aspirations, and concerns so that we are grounded in, and connected to, one another in commonality, not isolated from the struggles we share.

Nabila Jaouhari’s Platform Statement

As an older student, I feel i have more life experience to bring to the table. As of this year the UW Bothell has experienced more budget cuts and I would like to serve my fellow students by being an active part with any new legislation taking place in the future. If elected,I propose to be actively involved in maintaining the UW Bothell community and help to further its growth. I also have great people skills and I am a motivated, driven person.

Mathew Lam’s Platform Statement

I want to serve as a member on ASUWB to create and maintain an enthusiastic atmosphere sustainable to all diverse students. I want to take part in an experience, which takes a leadership role in maintaining high student morale on and off campus. Qualities I bring to the position of being a executive representative includes being up-to-date on student issues and understanding why these issues are actual problems. In addition, I voice opinions of my own as well as for others when others cannot speak for themselves. Qualities I value and keep include self-respect, to not to give into peer-pressures, and many others including promoting everyone to be themselves. As a member of the ASUWB council, I hope to bring new and inspiring ideas on motivating the student body.  Moreover, in my term as a member of the ASUWB, I plan to create an amazing year focused on the students while acknowledging the staff and faculty as guides through this educational experience!
